The star of the recently released film Matwetwe was allegedly stabbed to death yesterday in the Pretoria CBD in what is believed to be a robbery.
Sibusiso Khwinana, who plays Lefa in the movie, was killed on Friday night.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said the police has opened a case of murder and robbery.
“It is alleged that the deceased and his friend were at the corner of Pretorius and Steve Biko streets when the deceased was accosted by the suspect, who demanded his cellphone,” Masondo said.
“As they were wrestling for the cellphone, the deceased was allegedly stabbed with a sharp object on the upper body. He was certified dead on the scene.”
Khwinana was believed to have been attending a screening of the movie at a cinema in the city centre when the alleged robbery took place.
The movie, produced by acclaimed DJ Black Coffee and written by entertainer Kagiso, has been making waves in the film industry for its humour and authenticity.
No arrest has been made and police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or in apprehending the suspect to please call the nearest police station or call crime stop on 08600-10111.
