Zwelinzima Vavi embroiled in new sex scandal with Numsa Cleaner
According to a SowetanLive report, Vavi has allegedly been sanctioned with a warning, following a formal inquiry.
He was also ordered to apologise, which he has done and she has reportedly accepted.
The woman, who is a cleaner for the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), laid the complaint in September last year and alleged that Vavi would arrive at the office before most staffers, requesting foot and leg massages.
On one occasion, a source alleges that Vavi asked to kiss the woman, in another, he allegedly fondled her breast. On a different occasion, he also allegedly offered her a massage and suggested she lie down. He then reportedly touched her neck and back, while telling her that she was stressed out.
All of these incidents would reportedly happen while she brought Vavi his tea.
Vavi has denied the allegations, instead raising questions over the timing of its release.
“That allegation is rejected as false. Interestingly, it was made last year and a due process was undertaken,” he was quoted telling the publication.
“At the end, it was accepted by all parties that there has been a complete misunderstanding and the matter was accordingly put to rest. Interestingly, it’s been resuscitated now for obvious reasons.”
It’s not the first time Vavi has landed in hot water over a sexual matter. He confessed to having unprotected sex with a junior staffer when he was still General-Secretary of Cosatu in 2013.
